Project Title: 3D GIS Integration of Highly Accurate Subaquatic Data
Client: BioSonics
Platform:
ArcMap,
ArcScene, and ArcGIS Spatial Analyst
Summary: BioSonics, Inc. is a consulting,
engineering, and manufacturing firm that specializes in the use of
hydroacoustics for aquatic environmental assessments. Their current product
line includes the DT Series of scientific echo sounders introduced in 1994.
These echo sounders are the only digitally based hydroacoustic systems
available that digitize the signal in the transducer. They are able to do this
because the digitizer is placed next to the transducer ceramic, and because of
this they require only dynamic range and are less vulnerable to noise than any
other digital hydroacoustic system.
Integral GIS, Inc. has been working with BioSonics to
integrate and visualize data collected by their hydroacoustic equipment in a 2D
and 3D GIS environment. This data integration process will give BioSonic
customers a greater visualization medium for their data. In addition, the use
of a GIS will give customers access to advanced analytic spatial tools.
Result: Researchers now have an
optimal tool for aquatic environmental assessments, and it enables them to
present their data in virtually any GIS format with the confidence and
objectivity that only a scientific-grade instrument can provide. This is
versatile tool can be used for many aquatic tasks. For more information on GIS
