Client: PJM Interconnection

Platform: ArcGIS, ArcSDE, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Microsoft Project Server

Summary: Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of GIS is its ability to integrate diverse data sets, databases, and applications. While we don't suffer from the notion that GIS is a panacea, we do believe it's an appropriate technology for many engineering related projects.

PJM Interconnection, L.L.C. operates the largest wholesale electric market in the world. Their foremost responsibility is the safe and reliable operation of the electric transmission system to assure the reliable supply of energy from generation resources to wholesale customers.

Scheduling engines, such as Microsoft Project Server 2002, are great tools for visualizing time and decision impacts. When they are combined with the analysis capabilities of a GIS the result is quite powerful.

Integral GIS, Inc. is currently working with PJM to build a 4D GIS Management System using ArcGIS/SDE (8.2, 8.3, 9.0, and 9.1) and Microsoft Project Server 2002. Once built, this system will assist with PJM's utility infrastructure management.

Result: The integration of ArcGIS and Microsoft Project Server to make everyone happy.
