Client: PJM Interconnection

Platform: ArcGIS Desktop, ArcSDE, ArcSchematics, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000

Summary: PJM Interconnection, L.L.C., a regional transmission organization (RTO), operates the largest centrally dispatched electric grid in the world. PJM manages the electric transmission system that serves nearly 20 percent of the U.S. economy – a region stretching from Chicago to the Atlantic Ocean and from Virginia to Pennsylvania.

Different departments within PJM have their own ways of visualizing the PJM network. A schematic representation of the geodatabase is critical to the people within the operations department, and for other users that are not as interested in a purely geographic depiction of the Geodatabase. ArcSchematics creates schematic diagrams that are feature linked to the corresponding features in the Geodatabase and utilizes the standardized PJM symbology, which provides uniformity between schematics diagrams and other applications that use the PJM Geodatabase.
