Project Title: Elk Island Visualization Project (Alberta, Canada)
Motivation: GIS and visualization allowing
for the interactive and dynamic exploration of the park for teaching, research,
and park management.
Platform:
ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS 3D Analyst
Summary: Landscape visualization permits
enhanced exploration in a three-dimensional environment. The Elk Island National Park, Canada
Visualization Project is developing visualizations with GIS for the purpose of
creating high-resolution, realistic renderings of the park terrain. These
visualizations are useful for exploring historical changes within the
landscape, such as: vegetation, hydrology, fire, animal herbivory, and
development.
This project closely couples GIS and visualization to allow
for the interactive and dynamic exploration of the park through teaching,
research, and park management. To achieve this goal consideration is given to
visualization needs, data useful for visualization and application development,
and use of advanced three-dimensional technologies in immersive environments.
