Project Title: Business Geographics
Client: Starbucks Coffee Company
Platform: ArcView 3.x and ArcView Spatial Analyst
Summary: Integral GIS, Inc. developed a GIS based and
site-location modeling system for the Starbucks Coffee Company. These new
applications were designed to produce analytical maps of store suitability, or
put another way, to reveal areas in North America where locating a new store
would have the greatest probability of succeeding.
Result: These new applications enabled site-location analysis
for all of North America. In an iterative manner, analysts were able to modify
variables and their weights to arrive at a comprehensive understanding of store
behavior. An additional benefit of these new applications was their ability to
batch process metropolitan statistical units (MSAs) for the entire country,
thereby saving many months of personnel time in analysis and map production.
We are now developing the next generation model for Starbucks.
